Finally Finished—the Down & Dirty Civil War Repro Quilt! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

—the first finish of 2025 AND finished on Worldwide Quilting Day.

Goodness, where does the time go? It’s February March and I have a finished quilt to share with you! And talk about uplifting—let’s just say with all the happenings in our family circle and the world, it’s nice to see something get accomplished, although I honestly thought by this time I would have at least two quilts done. Anyone who truly knows me is laughing their butts off reading that statement.

I started this quilt in 2013 when our youngest, David, said he would like ...

All the stuff from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

My words for this year are “catalog” and “organization”—Nothing romantic about that, is there?

Combined with the annual "I need to hibernate" feeling, January comes with mixed blessings.

People who know me are aware of my ability to apply logic, reasoning and sequencing when processing a way to do or complete a task, assignment or project. It was probably one of my top skill sets in my career. That sort of goes out the window when I’m quilting…when I say “Quilting is my crack,” it’s the truth. I go into that euphoric state, even if it ...

It’s been a while. Let’s catch up. from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

…but let me catch my breath.

So…a lot has been happening. Others may not think so much, but this old gal just retired last week after working full time for the last 49 years and I am exhausted.

Tattoo Quilt: All blocks and center panel are pieced, and I’m almost done ripping off the paper! And yes, it is the ONLY project I have worked on this year.

Studio: I had been researching electronic or digital cutters. After going down the YouTube rabbit hole, I borrowed Cindy’s ScanNCut. End result was going to the Brother dealer to ...

The first baby quilt (and finish!) of 2022 from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

I believe I have reached an age where baby quilts will be prevalent…

Some dear friends of ours have a darling daughter whom we have known since she was a snowflake. The Hubs and I were lucky to witness her wedding to her beloved 5 years ago, and I was thrilled to hear that a baby was coming. I needed to make that baby a quilt!

The December evening when we celebrated our youngest’s birthday brought the unexpected delight of running into Sarah at the restaurant while waiting for our kids to arrive. The Hubs was ecstatic because he ...

Some quilting and sewing therapy from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Labor Day weekend always gets my hopes up for quilting.

Friday, the Hubs had some outpatient surgery scheduled. It happened to fall on my day off. This time, I wasn’t allowed to be with him behind the big doors or help him when it was time to be discharged. That was a bit disorienting.

Once we were home, he relaxed for a little bit and I got to sew. New great-granddaughter is coming any minute and I needed to meet my goal of one quilt for each day of the week. Mission accomplished! You’ve already seen the main ...

Baby quilt 1 is finished and gifted; Baby quilt 2 is done and almost gifted! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Yay! So many things got in my way of completing Baby Quilt 1, but it was finished AN ENTIRE 2 WEEKS before the baby shower last month!

There is nothing remarkable about this quilt other than it is DONE. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I’ve allowed interruptions and distractions get in my way, and about 7 weeks ago on a Sunday I told the Hubs, “You go on; I have to finish this.” By the time he returned it was completed and I had moved on to work on a receiving blanket.

Here’s the ...

Progress! And a little tip. from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Baby quilt 1 ("Palate Cleanser") is coming along.

The baby quilt has only the top and bottom borders left to be quilted and then the binding. I quilted it on The Beaut with an edge-to-edge design from Designs by Juju (NAYY). It has not been without struggles, but for the most part it has gone well and I am pleased. I'm figuring out what I'll do on the top and bottom borders and hope to finish it next weekend.

So here's a tip that has helped me: Franken-batting. If you haven’t heard this phrase then you ...
